Directions for Presentational Speaking Assignment

For the Presentational Speaking section of the test, you will record a spoken response to an assignment presented on-screen.  start bold You must respond to the assignment in the target language. end bold 

The assignment will be displayed on the next screen and the screen timer will count down the allotted preparation time (refer to the upper right corner of the screen to monitor the preparation time remaining).   start bold You may take up to 12 minutes to review the assignment and prepare your response. end bold   Please note that you are not required to take the entire 12 minutes; however,  start bold if you choose to advance to the next screen to start your response before the preparation time is over, you will not be able to go back. end bold 

When the preparation time is complete, the screen will automatically advance, and you will record your response to the assignment.  Do NOT begin speaking until the screen advances and you see the recorder presented on-screen.  A tone will indicate when to begin speaking and the status on the recorder will show “Recording.”   start bold You may take up to 3 minutes to record your response. end bold   A sample of the recorder appears below.

When your recording time is over, the status will change to "Complete," indicating the conclusion of the assignment.

Your response will be evaluated on the criteria above, not on the position you take. In your response, you must use your own words. With the exception of appropriately identified quotations and paraphrases from the passage, the response must be your own.

You may use the erasable notebooklet provided to take notes; however, start bold you will be scored only on the response that is recorded in the exam. end bold You will have only  start bold ONE end bold opportunity to record your response. Be sure that your microphone is in a downward position near your mouth before you begin speaking.

Η Ελλάδα, μαζί με την Ιταλία και τις ΗΠΑ, είναι οι χώρες του ΟΟΣΑ [Οργανισμός Οικονομικής Συνεργασίας και Ανάπτυξης] όπου υπάρχει το μεγαλύτερο πρόβλημα παχυσαρκίας μεταξύ των αγοριών και των κοριτσιών, καθώς περίπου ένα στα τρία παιδιά (ποσοστό άνω του 30%) είναι υπέρβαρο ή παχύσαρκο, σύμφωνα με νέα έκθεση του διεθνούς οργανισμού. Κατά μέσο όρο, στις χώρες του ΟΟΣΑ ένα στα πέντε παιδιά είναι παχύσαρκο και ο οργανισμός τονίζει ότι χρειάζονται περισσότερες και πιο συντονισμένες προσπάθειες για να αντιμετωπιστεί το πρόβλημα.

Η έκθεση αναφέρει ότι οι περισσότεροι άνθρωποι (πάνω από το 50%) στις χώρες του ΟΟΣΑ έχουν βάρος πάνω από το κανονικό, είναι δηλαδή υπέρβαροι ή παχύσαρκοι. Η παχυσαρκία δεν δείχνει τάση υποχώρησης και εξελίσσεται, όπως επισημαίνεται, σε μια επιδημία με δραματικές κοινωνικές και οικονομικές επιπτώσεις, εκθέτοντας έτσι έναν ολοένα αυξανόμενο αριθμό ανθρώπων σε χρόνιες παθήσεις, όπως ο διαβήτης, η καρδιοπάθεια και ο καρκίνος. Ακόμη, η έκθεση τονίζει ότι η παχυσαρκία αποτελεί ζήτημα και ανισότητας, καθώς λόγω της οικονομικής κρίσης οι πιο φτωχές οικογένειες αναγκάζονται να τρώνε φαγητό χαμηλότερης ποιότητας, συχνά με περισσότερες θερμίδες, γεγονός που αυξάνει την πιθανότητα παχυσαρκίας. Γενικότερα, οι πιο φτωχοί και οι λιγότερο μορφωμένοι εμφανίζουν μεγαλύτερα ποσοστά παχυσαρκίας (ιδίως οι γυναίκες).

Από την άλλη, αν και γενικά οι πιο μορφωμένοι άνθρωποι αποφεύγουν καλύτερα την παχυσαρκία, εμφανίζεται πλέον το φαινόμενο σε ανεπτυγμένες χώρες, όπως οι ΗΠΑ, οι άνθρωποι με ανώτερη εκπαίδευση να έχουν την ίδια πιθανότητα να είναι παχύσαρκοι με τα άτομα χαμηλότερου μορφωτικού επιπέδου.

Η παχυσαρκία επηρεάζεις και τα παιδιά και τους ενήλικες. Και στις ..περισσότερες χώρες του ΟΟΣΑ, πάνω από το 50% του πληθυσμού έχει μεγαλύτερο βάρος από το κανονικό, σύμφωνα με το άρθρο από την εφημερίδα Τα Νέα.

Το ανησυχητικό είναι .. ότι τα ποσοστά της παιδικής παχυσαρκίας αυξάνονται. Υιοθετούνται διατροφικές συνήθειες από νέα παιδιά που θα έχει μεγάλο κόστος στην υγεία τους.

Το άρθρο αναφέρεται ότι το οικονομικό επίπεδο επηρεάζει εάν σκεφτούμε ότι οι φτωχές οικογένειες αγοράζουν πιο φτηνό φαγητό που ίσως έχει περισσότερες θερμίδες.

..Μπορεί ακόμα κάποιες οικογένειες να πιστεύουν ότι όσο πιο πολύ τρώει ένα παιδί τόσο πιο γερό θα είναι, δηλαδή δε θα αρρωσταίνει. Προτιμούν δηλαδή την ποσότητα από την ποιότητα.

..Παλιότερα τα ποσοστά παχυσαρκίας συνδέονταν με χαμηλό μορφωτικό επίπεδο, πάντα σύμφωνα με το άρθρο .. ωστόσο αυτό έχει αλλάξει τα τελευταία χρόνια. Πιστεύω ότι ο σύγχρονος τρόπος ζωής είναι γρήγορος και γεμάτος άγχος. Πολλοί καταφεύγουν στο γρήγορο φαγητό που είναι πλούσιο σε θερμίδες αλλά καθόλου υγιεινό.

Ο ελεύθερος χρόνος είναι περιορισμένος και η αξία του φαγητού έχει αλλάξει. Η σύγχρονη οικογένεια δεν βρίσκει το χρόνο να βρεθεί γύρω από ένα τραπέζι .. η εργαζόμενη γυναίκα..-μητέρα.. δεν βρίσκει το χρόνο να κάνει πρώτα τα ψώνια και στη συνέχεια να ετοιμάσει ένα φαγητό με τα χεράκια της.

Έτσι οι κακές διατροφικές συνήθειες περνάνε από τους γονείς στα παιδιά.
Και το φαγητό μετατρέπεται σε μια βιολογική ανάγκη που ικανοποιείται γρήγορα για να έχουμε περισσότερο χρόνο για δουλειά.

Μία παροιμία λέει ότι «είμαστε ό,τι τρώμε». Ας αναρωτηθούμε λοιπόν τί βάζουμε στον οργανισμό μας καθημερινά .. και .. και ας κάνουμε κάτι για να αλλάξουμε τη διατροφή μας γιατί ..η παχυσαρκία είναι ένα μεγάλο.. είναι ένας μεγάλος κίνδυνος για την υγεία μας. Και.. μας αφορά όλους, μικρούς και μεγάλους.

Rationale for Sample Strong Response to Presentational Speaking Assignment

The response effectively communicates clear and logically sequenced ideas, delivered with a consistent flow of speech, few pauses, intelligible pronunciation, and appropriate intonation. The candidate establishes a clear position on the issue presented in the question and effectively supports the established position with relevant information from the passage, as well as his or her own relevant ideas and examples. Overall, the response demonstrates a strong engagement with the passage.

The response uses the candidate's own words and effectively uses a range of vocabulary and idiomatic language, as well as a style and sociolinguistic conventions that are appropriate for the assignment. The candidate effectively uses a range of appropriate grammatical constructions, time frames, and sentence structures. Errors are minor and do not interfere with comprehensibility. Examples of such errors include an incorrect verb agreement with the plural subject συνήθειες (έχει instead of έχουν), an incorrect choice of voice for a verb (αναφέρεται in the passive voice instead of the active voice αναφέρει), and a self-corrected gender error in which the candidate begins with using the neuter gender for adjectives ένα μεγάλο— instead of the masculine nominative ένας μεγάλος that agrees with the masculine noun κίνδυνος.

SUPPORT The extent to which the response supports the established position with information (appropriately cited details, quotations, and paraphrases) from the provided passage and the candidate's own ideas or examples
FLUENCY The extent to which the response communicates clear and logically sequenced ideas delivered with a consistent flow of speech, intelligible pronunciation, and appropriate intonation
GRAMMAR The extent to which the response uses a range of appropriate grammatical constructions, time frames, and sentence structures
VOCABULARY The extent to which the response uses a range of appropriate vocabulary and idiomatic language

Score Scale for Presentational Speaking Assignment

A score will be assigned to each response to the Presentational Speaking assignment according to the following score scale.
